The Kansas City Guide

Our Wine and Bev Recommendation

  • Tannin Wine Bar (Crossroads) - I had my 21st birthday at this wine bar. It is a casual spot, with great food, great wine events, and of course, great wine tasting opportunities. You can try flights of wine, or sit down for a full meal with a wine pairing. They have different events on different nights of the week such as pasta, wine club events, and special tastings.

Award-Winning KC Barbecue

  • Joe’s KC (Multiple Locations - Mission, Olathe) - Great for a casual lunch or dinner. This spot is legendary, originally known as Oklahoma Joe’s - one of the winningest barbecue joints in the country. Great for catering as well. The fries are fab.

  • Gates BBQ (Multiple Locations - Downtown, I435) - For top quality food and top culture, this is your spot. Walk in, get in line, and then yell out your order. It’s your hole in the wall.

  • Q39 (Multiple Locations - Downtown, Overland Park) - This is the spot you should try when you want to impress with a more upscale (and pricier) experience. Gourmet BBQ!

Sight-Seeing

  • Edinburgh Castle (Old Town) - Visible from all parts of the city, but I recommend at least getting a little closer. You can pay for access to the interior.

  • Arthur’s Seat (Old Town) - Approx 5 mile round trip hike to the top of an extinct volcano right on the edge of Edinburgh, with most panoramic view of the city.

  • Leith Walk (Stockbridge) - One of the best ways to see Edinburgh at its cosiest is to walk along the Leith Walk from Dean Village to Stockbridge. Check out my Google Map for walking directions.

Restaurants

  • Lazia (Crossroads, Downtown) - My favourite restaurant in Kansas City at the moment. The interior is sexy and romantic. The food is absolutely brilliant, classic Italian with a high touch spin. You can spend hours here having a multi-course meal, especially if you start at the bar in the lobby and finish at the rooftop bar with a drink. Great for dates, great for events, and great spot when you want a fresh wine menu.

  • The Rockhill Grille (Crossroads)

  • Stock Hill (Plaza)

  • Silo (Lenexa) - Your golf club spot. This a special treat when you are out in the suburbs and want a top quality, special occasion dinner.

  • Plate (Leawood)
